Work/Works – Day 2
These verses from Colossians are part of a chapter on encouragement for day to day living which can apply to any of us. The point Paul is making is that we as believers and followers of Jesus must be different to those around us who do not have that joy.
Colosians 3:23-24
Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.
The Thought
This is a challenge for many of us. Most of us have things we like to do, and things we would rather not do! Whether those tasks include working for ourselves, for our family, or going to work for others.
These verses from Colossians are part of a chapter on encouragement for day to day living which can apply to any of us. The point Paul is making is that we as believers and followers of Jesus must be different to those around us who do not have that joy. We should be noticeably different to them in many ways.
Paul is very specific in his words in this chapter, addressing Wives, Husbands, Children and Fathers, each group with different recommendations! Some of us may need to be work on Paul’s recommendations!
Work is what we are looking at this month!! It can mean the job that we do, a day to day activity. Or it can mean the menial tasks that just keep life running smoothly, “clearing away dishes” or “tidying a desk”.
Action
Think today about something you consider “work”, because you just don’t like doing it.
Pray for Jesus to be at your side as you attack that thing today.
Ask yourself if you are noticeably different to those around you. Maybe you work in a Christian organisation, but that doesn’t mean that everyone is perfect! All of us have bad days from time to time and we must learn to bear with one another in love (Ephesians 4:2).
Remind yourself throughout the day that the Lord is watching and encouraging you in whatever you are working at.
