Wisdom (Proverbs 8) – Day 31
Proverbs 30:24
Four things on earth are small, yet they are extremely wise.
The Thought
If you were asked to name four small wise creatures what would you think of?
Looking seriously at nature or closely watching the animal kingdom has persuaded thousands of people that there must be a God; or at least a superior being who guides and inspires the animals and even insects to do the best thing in any situation.
There have been many remarkable stories of dogs who have saved the day, or rescued their owner from a disastrous situation. Generally people will just say “my pet sensed something was wrong”! If we as Christians sense that things are not going as they normally do in any given situation, we will often say that Jesus inspired us to do something different or be in an unusual place at just the right moment.
The next verses (Proverbs 30:25-28) give us the opinion of the wise writer of Proverbs about the wisest creatures:-
Ants are creatures of little strength, yet they store up their food in the summer; Rock badgers are creatures of little power, yet they make their home in the crags; Locusts have no king, yet they advance together in ranks; A lizard can be caught by the hand, yet it is found in king’s palaces.
Action
Think today about the wisdom of any creatures you know something about. If you are an animal lover, then you will probably have lots of ideas.
Imagine the writer of Proverbs spending time just watching. He was obviously one who noticed the behaviour of other people as well as the animal world from large to tiny.
Praise God for His amazing creation, and pray for people to take care of His world for as long as it remains.
Read Proverbs 30 and note how many verses speak to much of life today!
