Wisdom (Proverbs 8) – Day 30

Proverbs 15:12

Mockers resent correction, so they avoid the wise.

The Thought

For many of us this verse could bring up memories of people we have known in the past. Those who did not like others because they were better behaved or more intelligent than they were, and sometimes because of the lifestyle choices they had made.

The sad thing is that so many people tend to not like others because of their way of thinking, their upbringing, where they live, or how they spend their spare time. To say nothing of which school or church they attend (if they have any faith or are from a different faith!)

We have to keep reminding ourselves that Jesus died for ALL. He loves every person on earth, even if we don’t, and He wants us to follow Him in His lifestyle, that means loving the mockers we don’t like! Jesus was always telling His followers to love others:- Love one another as I have loved you (John 13:34, John 15:12)!

The Amplified Bible gives us a better understanding of todays verse:- A scoffer, (unlike a wise man) resents one who rebukes him and tries to teach him; Nor will he go to the wise for counsel and instruction).

Most people on the earth are wise in some areas and not others. We learn our wisdom in different ways, mostly through our life experiences, but as followers of Jesus we learn that it is wise to not judge, wise to accept correction, and wise to stay humble.

Action

Read Proverbs 15 today and choose some of those verses to learn by heart. Verses 7, 20, 31, & 33 also speak about the wise person!

Pray for the Lord to show you where you lack humility or wisdom. (We all do! Nobody is perfect this side of Heaven!) Ask His help to get over that problem.
