Who is God – Day 29

Jeremiah 51:6

Flea from Babylon! Run for your lives! Do not be destroyed because of her sins. It is time for the Lord’s vengeance; He will repay her what she deserves.

The Thought

This verse tells us plainly that Yahweh-Ghmolah the God of vengeance, will punish the wicked for all they have done. But this fact is made even clearer in Paul’s letter to the Roman church when he very clearly tells this young group to forgive (Romans 12:17-19).

In Jeremiah 51 we read that the prophet is pleading with the people to escape from the place of evil. God had promised to destroy Babylon because of their false gods and their injustices towards His people. And if the Israelites did not flea they too would be destroyed in the fray which was to come.

Interestingly the verse today, Jeremiah 51:6, tells us to not allow ourselves to be destroyed by the sins of others. It is too easy for people in our day, especially young people, or hurting people trying to forget their hurts, to be carried along by the crowd and find themselves in sinful situations; the wrong bars, the bad parts of town or nightclubs run with evil purposes.

Action

Pray today for the young people in your family or your church or those you meet through work of social events. That they would be able to make the right decisions and not get carried along by the crowd.

Read Romans 12 today and be blessed by the promises there. Take careful note of the commands Paul gives to his readers.

Ask yourself honestly what your attitude is to someone who has hurt you or hurt someone you care for, either physically or emotionally. Pray with purpose. Bless those people and pray for healing and a real revelation of the love of the Lord for each one.
