Who is God – Day 23

Haggai 2:7

I will shake all nations, and the desired by all nations will come, and I will fill this house with glory, says The Lord.

The Thought

In this prophecy from the Old Testament prophet Haggai, we have a name for God that is rarely used. The Desired One. Most christians if asked what is their deepest desire, would not respond “Jesus”! But if we really recognised who He is, and what He can do and will do for the world and for each individual believer, then His return would be our greatest desire.

If life is going along well, with very few problems, if we have happy families, live in a nice place, and have no big financial burdens, then we tend to get satisfied, and think that all is well. And it is!

BUT, (and it is a very big BUT), much of the world is in the hands of the enemy who still lives to steal, kill and destroy (John 10:10). That Bible verse spoken by Jesus finishes with I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full. Who is there amongst us that doesn’t want to live life to the full, and without too much effort?

Action

Think today about what a full life would mean for you. What are your deepest desires? Do you see Jesus as The Desired One who can help fulfil those personal desires?

Read Haggai 2. Imagine that you are in that community who have settled in their own homes after generations of desert wanderings and wars, but things were still not going as they hoped. That was because they had neglected God’s house. But this was a time of reform and new beginnings, and great promises from God to bless them.

Think about what it would mean for you, if God said to you today From this day on I will bless you (v19).
