The Weather – Day 6

Joshua 10:11

As they fled before Israel on the road down from Beth Horon to Azekah, the Lord hurled large hailstones down on them, and more of them died from the hail than were killed by the swords of the Israelites.

The Thought

Little by little the Israelites were taking over the promised land, just as The Lord had told them to. They had brought down the walls of Jericho, and after their first failed attempt to win in the battle over Ai (Joshua 7), they succeeded in taking that city (Joshua 8).

In the following chapter we read about the eventual agreement with the town of Gibeon.

News spread of these victories, and naturally the town of Jerusalem was worried.

Adoni-Zedek, the king of Jerusalem about whom we hear very little, began to panic. He was angry that Gibeon had made peace with God’s people without a fight, so he decided to attack the people of Gibeon himself, but he needed help. This worried leader asked four other cities to come and help him attack Gibeon. They agreed.

But Gibeon asked the people of Jehovah God to help them! That changed everything! Joshua responded to this call for help and as the Israelite army was on the way to the battle, Joshua heard God speak, telling him not to worry, that His people would win this battle. And they did!

As the enemy forces were retreating we read this verse for today. What a shock it must have been to see giant hailstones coming from Heaven!

Action

Praise God today that He will go to extremes to save His people from destruction.

Praise Him that nothing is too difficult for The Lord, and that He will do amazing un heard of things to defend His people.

Read Joshua 10 and be amazed at the lengths that God went to in that episode to destroy His enemies.
