The Weather – Day 29

Jude 1:12

These people are blemishes at your love feasts, eating with you without the slightest qualm – shepherds who feed only themselves. They are clouds without rain, blown along by the wind; autumn trees, without fruit and uprooted – twice dead.

The Thought

The clouds without rain are the pretty ones that make for nice photos when people go on holiday. But in a dry country area, they are pointless! Those people are looking for “real clouds” who help the land to bring forth fruit, as we saw yesterday.

These people that Jude sees as “blemishes” in our church meals together are those who come for the free coffee, the free kids’ activites, someone to talk to, although they don’t ever listen, they talk! They will make the most of all the church offers physically, but just pretend when it comes to the spiritual. How sad!

Jude’s letter is not the one he had hoped to write (v3). He wanted to be encouraging and share some of the great advantages and blessing of the Christian life, but he couldn’t do that. He was compelled instead, to send them a warning that wolves in sheep’s clothing were amongst these people.

We are encouraged by The Lord to constantly love the unlovable, but that doesn’t mean being taken for a ride. As Jesus sent out His first disciples, He warned them to be shrewd as snakes and gentle as doves (Matthew 10:16)! He encourages us to be the same.

Action

Read the letter of Jude today and feel Jude’s sadness that his readers had not seen through the ruse of the enemy to invade their space.

Ask the Lord to point out to you any who are in your church not to learn more about Jesus, but to take advantage of your generosity. Pray for them to have a change of heart, but don’t give them too much time.

Yes we must feed the poor, but not those who have been planted because they are already serving satan!
