The Weather – Day 20
We can apply this principle to many things, not just spiritual life, but physical too. Not just houses, but any kind of investment. There is much evil going on in the financial world and we must beware where we invest even the smallest amount that we might want to save.
Matthew 7:25
The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock.
The Thought
This verse comes from another well known parable. This time about building a strong house in a sensible place, or a house without strong foundations. The message is basically the same as yesterday’s, just a different picture. Jesus took most, if not all his messages from everyday life, or from nature. That made them very easy to understand by all His listeners.
Most of us have heard preachers who do the same, but also preachers who don’t. The latter leave us bored and not understanding. It is the same with teachers in school! A teacher who can make his subject relevant to every day life is always much more interesting, and easier to learn from than one who talks total theory.
Jesus’s messages were, and still are, always relevant.
The end of the story in Matthew 7:27 tells us of the disastrous destiny of the badly built house. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.
We can apply this principle to many things, not just spiritual life, but physical too. Not just houses, but any kind of investment. There is much evil going on in the financial world and we must beware where we invest even the smallest amount that we might want to save.
Action
Read the parable of the wise and foolish builders today and ask yourself where you life is built. Notice that Jesus made the reason for telling the parable quite clear.
Is your life built on the Words of Jesus, or something less trustworthy as a foundation? Can your family feel safe in a protected place away from the storms of life?
