The Weather – Day 10

Genesis 41:5-6

Pharaoh fell asleep again and had a second dream: Seven heads of grain, healthy and good were growing on a single stalk. After them, seven other heads of grain sprouted — thin and scorched by the east wind.

The Thought

The dreams that Pharaoh had were about the future famine coming in Egypt. Famines anywhere are generally caused by extreme climatic conditions, or by infestation of a destructive insect. Nature gone wrong!

This verse is an indirect reference to weather, and probably shouldn’t be included in a study based on weather. But it such an interesting situation that it is worth looking at briefly.

The situation is that Pharaoh had been perturbed by his dreams. In his search for someone who could interpret the dreams he ended up meeting his future director general! Joseph merits a study all on his own because he is an interesting character with an interesting history. The most important thing about him is that he stayed faithful to his God, Jehovah.

His relationship with The Lord is remarkable all the way through his life. The gentle spirit he has is obvious in many episodes. The way he forgives his brothers is a challenge to us all. And much of that happened because God gave him the ability to interpret dreams from a very young age.

Action

Jospeh got to where he was because of opportunities he had through his life. Look back on your life today and thank God for the good opportunities you have had. If you feel as though you have not made the most of those times, then ask forgiveness and keep moving forward with God.

Read Genesis 41 today and be amazed at the rapid promotion Joseph experienced: from prison to palace! Only God could orchestrate those changes, and God hasn’t changed. He can do similar things for you and me if we are faithful to Him.
