Psalms 146-150 – Day 15

Psalm 147:13-14

He strengthens the bars of your gates and blesses your people within you. He grants peace to your borders and satisfies you with the finest of wheat.

The Thought

These verses speak of protection and peace for a city, and even for individual homes. Knowing we are well protected allows us to be at peace. For many of us, knowing we have a securely locked door means we sleep well at night. For others, knowing we have angels of protection means we sleep well too.

In Biblical times the gates to all cities were locked and barred at night, but in spite of all precautions, there are stories of city gates being broken through or just taken away!

In Judges 16:3 we read of Samson and his extreme strength. But Samson lay there only until the middle of the night. Then he got up and took hold of the doors of the city gate, together with the two posts, and tore them loose, bar and all. He lifted them to his shoulders and carried them to the top of the hill that faces Hebron.

No matter how well protected we are in the physical world, it is trusting in God’s protection that brings us real peace. He not only keeps us safe, but He also provides for our daily needs. The finest of wheat here refers to good quality bread. If the wheat is good, the bread (the staple food of most people groups) will be good.

Action

Think today about your personal protection. How much do you trust God? How much do you worry about your own safety and about those you care about? If you are a worrier pray for God’s peace and for angels to accompany you throughout your day keeping you and your property safe.

Read His word before going to sleep at night and pray for Holy Spirit to fill and protect your home.
