Truth – Day 29
Sometimes, the words of Peter could be taken for the words of Paul. So often they are saying similar things. Peter, although, not an educated man who had studied the Old Testament scriptures as Paul had, says what he says or what he writes, just as directly as Paul does.
2 Peter 1:12
So I will always remind you of these things, even though you know them and are firmly established in the truth you now have.
The Thought
Sometimes, the words of Peter could be taken for the words of Paul. So often they are saying similar things. Peter, although he was not an educated man who had ever studied the Old Testament scriptures as Paul had, says what he says or what he writes, just as directly as Paul does. Peter had the much bigger privilege of having physically walked and talked with Jesus.
Both apostles had the single minded aim of encouraging the people they were responsible for to keep on walking in The Truth.
Peter was not embarrassed to be reminding his readers of something he had already told them. We all need to be reminded of lessons we have learned in the past. Especially when they are relevant for today. The things Peter was actually referring to are listed a few verses earlier:- Make every effort to add to your faith, goodness, and to your goodness, knowledge, … self control, … perseverance, … godliness, … mutual affection, … love. (2 Peter 1:5-7).
In order to keep on growing closer to Jesus and the Truth He represents, we must regularly ask ourselves if we are growing in these things. And even if they are evident in our lives, so that others are influenced by the way we live.
Action
Ask yourself today if you are growing in the truth. Not just of what Jesus has done for you, and who He is, but also in what you are capable of doing for Him. Do other people notice that you are different? Do they see you as being more patient and more persevering than others they meet?
Read the first chapter of 2 Peter. Feel Peter’s enthusiasm for us all to grow and deepen our knowledge and experience of The Truth of JESUS.
