Truth – Day 2
This is a sentiment that most of us can identify with. John is talking about his spiritual children, and writing to those who have converted to Christ because they are a part of a church that he planted. But it is a verse that all of us can identify with.
3 John 1:4
I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth.
The Thought
This is one of the last mentions of the word truth in the Bible, and is a sentiment that most of us can identify with. John is talking about his “spiritual children”, and writing to those who have been converted to Christ because they are a part of a church that he planted. But it is a verse that all of us can identify with. We all want those we love to walk in the truth.
But what does walking in the truth actually mean?
For me, it means being honest about who you are, and the things you do, for whatever reason. Many of us do things a certain way because that is the way we have always done those things. Or because that’s the way our parents did them. We continue in the same ways without thinking, until we move and live with someone else! Then we might find that there are other ways to do things that are just as efficient or interesting, or even more so!
But this verse is about spiritual beliefs and putting them into practice. People who have been brought up in a traditional church setting are often shocked and upset at their first experience of a more modern church, and find it difficult to believe that God has a sense of humour, or could even enjoy people laughing and joking in His house. Others who have only known lively church are sometimes moved to tears over the solemnity in more traditional settings.
Action
Ask yourself today what it means for you to be walking in the truth.
Be honest with yourself today about who Jesus is for you, and how you share that truth with others.
Read the short single chapter of 3 John, and be blessed by the truth you read there.
