This post is the first in a series of studies about “Truth”.
Feel free to comment below with your own thoughts about each verse and how you will be acting on each thought. Also, if you haven’t yet signed up to receive the notifications of new studies, you can do that today. (The form is at the bottom of the page).
Truth – Day 1
Employers have been dishonest with employees. People were lied to by parents, or other family members. Politicians are not honest about government discussions and decisions. Financiers are involved in wheelings and dealings of their clients affairs. Much of our media is giving us twisted truth. Truth will set you free.
John 8:31-32
To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
The Thought
The word “truth” is mentioned 5 times in this chapter of John’s writings, and 23 times in this whole gospel and also used 19 times in the 6 short chapters of his letters. It was obviously important to him. This verse is the one which started my search for what the scriptures say about truth.
I began this research for several reasons:-
- Too many employers have been dishonest with employees.
- Too many people were lied to by parents, or other family members. Consequently they do not understand the truth about situations they lived through when they were younger, or about their heritage.
- Too many politicians are not honest about government discussions and decisions.
- Too many financiers are involved in wheelings and dealings of their clients affairs.
- Too much of our news media is giving us twisted truth.
These things should not be, and our prayer must be that people caught in these demonic traps will know the truth and the truth will set them free.
Action
Pray as you begin this study that any lies you have believed will be shown for what they are, and that you personally as well as all the people you care about will know the truth and consequently be set free.
Read John 8:31-36 and contemplate what Jesus meant when He talked about being free because of His words.
Pray for truth to be told in the media and in the political world. Ask Jesus to touch the conscience of those who are at the root of the lies. May they be forgiven and discover that the father of lies (John 8:44) is behind much of what they, themselves have been believing.
