The Life of Joseph – Day 3

Genesis 37:9-11

Then he had another dream, and he told it to his brothers. “Listen,” he said, “I had another dream, and this time the sun and moon and eleven stars were bowing down to me.” When he told his father as well as his brothers, his father rebuked him and said, “What is this dream you had? Will your mother and I and your brothers actually come and bow down to the ground before you?” His brothers were jealous of him, but his father kept the matter in mind.

The Thought

The last phrase in these verses reminds us again of the virgin Mary who pondered these things in her heart (Luke 2:19). Often we don’t understand what God is saying or allowing to happen in our personal lives, or the lives of those around us, but it is wise to keep the matter in mind in confidence that we will understand one day. Maybe in reading those verses today we think it was not wise of Joseph to tell his dream to his brothers, maybe he could have just told his father, and possibly his younger brother, Benjamin (Joseph’s mother Rachel had died giving birth to Benjamin, Jacob’s twelfth and youngest son) (Genesis 35:18).

The dreams of Joseph were to become reality many long years in the future, before that happened, there were many ups and downs in Joseph’s life. That was all part of God’s plan to strengthen him and give him wisdom.

Action

Think about who you are today compared with who you were twenty or thirty years ago. Did you imagine what you would be doing today? Can you see God’s plan unfolding?

Thank Him for the plans you have seen accomplished, and thank Him for future surprises He has prepared for you. Pray that you will be prepared well for your future, no matter how old you are.
