The Life of Joseph – Day 25

Genesis 45:1

Jospeh could no longer control himself before all his attendants and he cried out, “Have everyone leave my presence!” So there was no one with Joseph when he made himself known to his brothers.

The Thought

This must have been the moment of the biggest surprise ever in the lives of Joseph’s brothers. There had been several things they had not understood, and this high ranking official expressing his emotions before them must have been the most baffling!

We can imagine the worried glances they surreptitiously gave each other across the table.

Joseph’s servants must also have been shocked, although they had probably noticed that he had been acting strangely around these men from far away. Rumours spread, and very quickly Pharaoh himself heard about it too!

He (Joseph) wept so loudly that the Egyptians heard him and Pharaoh heard about it (Genesis 45:2).

Eventually Joseph calmed down and explained to his brothers who he was, and blessed God for His plans, freeing his brothers from all guilt (verses 4-7)! He then insisted that they return to his father and bring him to finish his days in Egypt where Joseph could care for him. The emotional moments continued until he had hugged each one of his brothers, then they settled down to just talk (v15).

Action

The emotions of meeting long lost family members are familiar to many people all across the world. Pray today for any you know who have lost loved ones and don’t even know if they are still alive. Pray for the prodigal sons; the children caught innocently in child trafficking rings, and pray for divine inspiration for those who seek to find these lost ones.

Read again the account of the lost son (Luke 15:11-32), and praise God that He never stops seeking His lost children.
