Separation – Day 5

Exodus 19:5-6

Now if you obey me fully and keep my covenant, then out of all nations you will be my treasured possession. Although the whole earth is mine, you will be for me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation. These are the words you are to speak to the Israelites.

The Thought

Once the earth was beginning to be filled with different people groups, God did another major separation. Separating His people, the Jewish nation of Israel for Himself.

Once Jesus came and fulfilled His earthly mission, there was another separation group: Christians, but we’ll look at that tomorrow.

God had always wanted a special group of people who would show the rest of the world that He is real, that He is approachable, that He answers prayer, and that He provides everything His people need. Not so that they would be in any way superior, or act differently. But so that they would live in such a way that others would see, and know that their God is real.

He had already shown the Israelites His amazing power of deliverance in separating them from their pursuing enemies at the Red Sea, and in providing quail and manna in the desert. What more could they ask? How wonderful it is to hear the God of creation say to a group “you will be my treasured possession”.

Take time to appreciate that fact today. Tell yourself that you are His treasured possession! Hallelujah!

Action

Praise God for His call to each of us to be “His treasured possession”. Praise Him for His plans for a Holy nation set apart for Him.

Pray for the reality of what you are reading to be true in your own life, in your church, in your community, in your family. That each one of us would be conscious of the fact that we are God’s “treasured possession”.
