Samson – Day 3

Judges 13:6-7

Then the woman went to her husband and told him, “A man of God came to me. He looked like an angel of God, very awesome. I didn’t ask him where he came from, and he didn’t tell me his name. But he said to me, “You will become pregnant and have a son. Now then, drink no wine or other fermented drink and do not eat anything unclean, because the boy will be a Nazarite of God from the womb until the day of his death.””

The Thought

This nameless “mother to be” went immediately to share her strange experience with her husband, giving him all the details. He believed her, and panicked a bit about how they were to cope with the responsibility of bringing up this particular child. So he prayed:- Pardon your servant, Lord. I beg you to let the man of God you sent to us come again to teach us how to bring up the boy who is to be born (v8).

The fact that Manoah believed his wife tells us of the good marriage relationship they had. Many people I know would not have that reaction, and would tell their wives they are crazy! But the reaction of this man was to pray, and seek confirmation of what had been promised.

Action

Think today about how you react to unexpected news, or strange circumstances. Do you panic or pray?

How would you react if someone in your family told you that they were expecting a baby after many years of infertility? Would you think of it being a “God event” or fertility treatment?

Pray for any older couples you know who have growing children in our rapidly changing world, where it is not easy to keep to Biblical standards.

Thank God today for some of the answered prayers you have experienced in your life with Him.
