Revelation 1-3 – Day 6

Revelation 1:11-13

Write on a scroll what you see and send it to the seven churches: to Ephesus, Smyrna, Pergamum, Thyatira, Sardis, Philadelphia and Laodicea.
I turned around to see the voice that was speaking to me. And when I turned I saw seven golden lampstands, and among the lampstands was someone like a son of man.

The Thought

The Holy Spirit who spoke to John when he was praying that day was very clear in his instructions. And the vision that John saw was also clear. The next few verses describe in detail what John saw. We can understand that John was under the influence of Holy Spirit at that time, and fell as though dead (v 17).

The number seven seems to be significant here. We could spend time asking why there were 7 churches, and 7 lampstands, but we could also ask ourselves why God made a week of seven days, and that would be a distraction, so let’s stick with the book of Revelation.

The beginning of this very long vision was a message to John for the world, telling us that Christ was still the centre of the universe, and He, who said He was the light of the world (John 8:12), was still alive and nothing that He had spoken of had changed. It is a clear message that the church on earth should be continuing to shine that light.

Action

Read and meditate on Revelation 1:12-20 today and spend time imagining this vision for yourself.Ask yourself if the members of your church community carry the light of Christ as they go through their regular activities? Do you?

What does it mean when Jesus says that He holds the keys to death and hell? Many christians say that they don’t believe a good God would allow anyone to go to Hell. Pray for clarity asking God what you should think about that?
