Revelation 1-3 – Day 3

Revelation1:5-6

To Him who loves us and has freed us from our sins by His blood, and has made us to be a kingdom and priests to serve His God and Father—to Him be glory and power for ever and ever! Amen.

The Thought

These verses are addressed to the kingdom and priests in the churches to which John was writing. But they are also addressed to us. We are all called to be a part of God’s kingdom, doing His work! This expression, kingdom and priests, is used later in John’s letter when he relates the song that the elders were singing. You have made them (believers) to be a kingdom and priests to serve our God, and they will reign on the earth (Revelation 5:10).

As a kingdom of priests on the earth, we live by His rules. And we have God given authority to chase the demons out of our territory. We don’t have to make a fuss or draw attention to ourselves. But most of us can pray and take authority more than we do.

We can change the world by our prayers for those who don’t even know we are praying for them; on public transport, in a traffic jam, or for the vehicles around us at the lights. We can pray for those in the line at the supermarket, and for those in local and national government authority over us.

Action

Read Revelation 5 today and spend some time worshipping Jesus as the elders round the throne do. Allow yourself to be amazed at the power that God has given to His people on the earth.

Thank Father God for Jesus who died for us and did what this verse describes. He freed us from our sins by His blood, and has made us to be a kingdom and priests to serve His God and Father.
