Revelation 1-3 – Day 22

Revelation 3:4-5

Yet you have a few people in Sardis who have not soiled their clothes. They will walk with me, dressed in white, for they are worthy. The one who is victorious will, like them, be dressed in white. I will never blot out the name of that person from the book of life, but will acknowledge that name before my Father and his angels.

The Thought

There is a great promise in these verses for those who live saintly lives! None of us is without sin. But sadly there are people who attend meetings regularly in many Christian communities who do not understand the necessity to at least make an effort to live for Jesus 24/7. He compares those people who follow Him sincerely as clean whilst the others are the unwashed, and uncared for. The suggestion is that this is a battle which we must win, and be victorious in order to walk with Him and be dressed in white.

The white robes are mentioned again later as John’s vision continues and he asks questions about what he is seeing (Revelation 6:11, 7:9, 13 & 14). Jesus comes with those prepared for a very special occasion. The white garments represent their purity. For many of us living in a western culture, that suggests a wedding feast. That is what Jesus is planning. Blessed are those who are invited to the wedding supper of the Lamb (Revelation 19:9).

Interestingly the colour white is mentioned most in the book of Leviticus (19 times in most translations). But in every mention, it is to do with healthy skin, and nothing to do with clothing.

Action

Praise God that He is preparing a wedding feast. Rejoice today that you have already received the wedding invitation. Read Revelation 7 and try to imagine what John was experiencing.

Pray for those you know who, by their lifestyle, are refusing the wedding invitation.
