Revelation 1-3 – Day 19

Revelation 2:20-23

Nevertheless, I have this against you: You tolerate that woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophet. By her teaching she misleads my servants into sexual immorality and the eating of food sacrificed to idols. I have given her time to repent of her immorality, but she is unwilling. So I will cast her on a bed of suffering, and I will make those who commit adultery with her suffer intensely, unless they repent of her ways. I will strike her children dead. Then all the churches will know that I am he who searches hearts and minds, and I will repay each of you according to your deeds.

The Thought

Yesterday’s verses beginning this letter to the church in Thyatira were encouraging, but today begins with a nevertheless telling us that all was not so well as they thought! The problem was one that many churches face today. Someone who professes to be a believer, but is actually a demonic power planted in their midst!

There are times when a volunteer can do more harm than good! Churches need committed Christians in all positions of responsibility. This “Jezebel” was leading people astray and encouraging demonic practices.

Sometimes a person’s words can encourage us. They seem very capable and want to help, but he or she is not on the right side!

A volunteer is not always a good thing. And whether we like it or not, we must, as responsible Christians, be very careful about who we allow to have authority in our groups. God’s response to this lady was drastic!

Action

Pray today for all the volunteers in your church, no matter how willing they are, they must be God’s choice for that responsibility.

Pray for wisdom for your church leaders in choosing the welcome team or the coffee makers as well as those who are in prayer ministry. All are equally important and discernment is necessary.

Read some of Jezebel’s story today (1 Kings chapters 16, 19, & 21).
