Renewing the Mind – Day 19

Ephesians 1:4

For He chose us in Him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in His sight.

The Thought

God’s long term plan for His people was a Holy Nation. So, when He asks us to change, or sets about changing us, it is not because He has suddenly had a new idea. No, it is because He is working out His plans for mankind.

God created Adam, to be holy as He Himself is Holy and the plan went wrong. So He stopped everything and started again with Noah (Genesis 6).

Later, He chose Abraham to father a Holy Nation, (Genesis 12) and things went wrong again. Much later God chose Moses (Exodus 3) to take the people of Israel through the desert to teach them the results of sin and make them into a Holy Nation. Sadly things went wrong again very quickly after they had reached their “promised land”.

Finally He came Himself in the form of Jesus who was obedient to death on the cross (Philippians 2:8) in order for us all to get into Heaven and accomplish God’s plan for mankind.

Today we are nearer than ever before to the fulfillment of God’s long term plan, and you and I are a part of it. That is an exciting prospect. But it is not something to just sit back and wait for. There is work to be done for this long term God-project. Let’s change our thinking and be listening for what God is calling us to do each day BEFORE we make our own plans!

Action

Praise God for His long term plans which cannot be thwarted. Praise Him that He never changes in spite of the fickleness of man.

Pray for a better understanding of God’s plan to make a Holy Nation, and for your part in it.
