Remembering – Day 9
Hannah who eventually had her prayer answered, and gave birth to Samuel had been desperately unhappy with a sense of being a failure because she could not conceive. This verse is part of her answered prayer. I wonder if this desperately unhappy woman ever regretted her promise to The Lord.
1 Samuel 1:11
Lord Almighty, if you will only look on your servant’s misery and remember me, and not forget your servant but give her a son, then I will give him to the Lord for all the days of his life …
The Thought
Hannah who eventually had her prayer answered, and gave birth to Samuel had been desperately unhappy with a sense of being a failure because she could not conceive. Today’s verse is part of her prayer which was answered.
I wonder if this desperately unhappy woman ever regretted her promise to The Lord. There is no suggestion of that in the Bible chapter, where we read later that at a very young age, she literally gave her son to God and then every year as she visited Him, she brought him new robes to wear. What a proud mum she must have been as she watched him grow and heard him speak of what he was learning from Eli, his priest and foster father.
In fact it was God’s plan to have a prophet who would obey Him completely, because he had learned to love the Lord with all His heart, mind, and soul. Three of the gospels quote Jesus telling His followers to do the same (Matthew 22:37, Mark 12:30, Luke 10:27). It must be important.
Action
Ask yourself today what it means to Love to Lord with all your heart, mind, soul and strength. Many of us think we have to be full time missionaries to do that, but all of us should be so filled with God’s Spirit that we radiate His love, and lean on His inspirations for all decisions we have to make. Pray for that today, remembering Proverbs 3:5-6. Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding, in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will direct your paths.
