Remembering – Day 8

Hebrews 13:16

And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased.

The Thought

A reminder from the writer of Hebrews to do what many of us think of as normal life! We all share things don’t we? But the suggestion here is that sharing is a sacrifice! If we have possessions, or money, then giving a little away is easy and not a sacrifice as we imagine the Biblical interpretation. When we compare our sacrifices with Jesus’ sacrifice for us, we must be humbled and grateful.

The previous verse encourages us to continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise – the fruit of lips that openly profess His name (Hebrews 13:15). For many of us sharing what we have, and giving a sacrifice of praise to Jesus, are two entirely different things. That can be because we have a wrong idea of what is Praise.

We sing songs of praise when we meet together with others, but what about being home alone? Often that is when we need to praise God. The way to stop ourselves from getting depressed, (and there is much in the world that could depress us at the moment) is to sing to the Lord, not just with our lips, but with our hearts, letting it affect the atmosphere around us.

Remember that at the name of Jesus every knee will bow (Philippians 2:10). That includes the negative thoughts and bad circumstances we might be suffering from.

Action

Read Hebrews 13 today and note the different points that we are all encouraged to work on. As you go through your day and experience negative things speak to them and tell them that at the name of Jesus every knee will bow (Philippians 2:10).
