Remembering – Day 17
These well known words from the story of Peter are a reminder to all of us to not forget what Jesus has said. Whether we like it or not, whether we agree or not, what God has spoken will happen. My thoughts are not your thoughts, as the Lord declares.
Luke 22:61-62
Then Peter remembered the word The Lord had spoken to him: Before the rooster crows, you will disown me three times. And he went outside and wept bitterly.
The Thought
These well known words from Peter’s story are a reminder to all of us to not forget what Jesus has said. Whether we like it or not, whether we agree or not, what God has spoken will happen. Peter did not agree with what Jesus was saying, he was confident in his own faithfulness, but he could not have imagined what was ahead.
The disciples had lived closely with Jesus for three years and knew that nothing was impossible for Him. It wasn’t, and still isn’t, but often God’s plans do not line up with our plans, and Peter had to learn the truth of Isaiah 55:8 – My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord.
We can imagine after Jesus’ departure to Heaven, when His followers were all waiting in the upper room together, that they discussed many of the times when they had misunderstood the situation, or something that Jesus had said. Many of us today are living in situations like that. We look at the world and say “Why Lord?”
Action
Think today about some of the world situations that are worrying, and pray for God’s solution and intervention, with confidence that He knows what is happening, and is still in control!
If you have time, read all of Luke 22 for the full account of Jesus’ arrest, and trial, but if you are short of time, (all of us have days like that!) then read verses 54-71, imagining the scene. Let the fact that Jesus allowed all those things to happen so that you and I could get to Heaven have an effect on your day today.
