There are often times when we need some good counsel or a listening ear. Often we need the prayers of more mature believers, or even people who are at a similar level to us, but who really are interested in what we do! Having someone who cares is important.
As we listen to political discussions, many of us could be echoing this question today. In fact, many people are asking if there is any wise leadership in the world. It seems that many political leaders look after their own interests, rather than that of the people they represent.
John could have gone into much more detail about what an idol is or can be, but he either did not want to, or he thought it was too big a subject, so he just left a short command. It is a simple command, but it makes us ask why?
This must be one of the saddest verses in the Bible. John tells us what will happen at the end of time as we know it. Some will repent, but others will not, they are influenced too much by the demonic powers who are out to destroy all believers.

This whole chapter is a real encouragement to us all to watch what sort of example we are setting to others. If we think we know it all, then we are full of pride. That is what is suggested by the verse today!

What a thing that is to think about and look forward to. Exciting times are ahead for all of us who believe and follow Jesus. This whole chapter is an encouragement to live holy lives, to be rid of the old habits and attitudes and follow the example of Jesus.
Throughout the Bible, we read of the same problem recurring generation after generation. Satan has never given up! As he tempted Eve, and as Adam forgot what God had said, so he tempts all of us at some point in our lives. For many, sadly, that is a recurring experience.
