Mysteries and Secrets – Day 27

Colossians 4:3

And pray for us, too, that God may open a door for our message, so that we may proclaim the mystery of Christ, for which I am in chains.

The Thought

Several times in this study we have looked at the mystery of Christ, a phrase often found in Paul’s writings, and in Ephesians 3:2-4 we had the explanation of what Paul believed it was. This mystery is that through the gospel the Gentiles are heirs together with Israel, members together of one body, and sharers together in the promise in Christ Jesus (Ephesians 3:6). Many believers think the mystery of Christ is something much wider than that. Much of Christ’s life was actually a mystery to those who met Him or heard Him speak. Right to the end, his closest followers had not understood the truth about who Jesus was; who He is!

From conception Jesus was a mystery! When Mary the young virgin had her first angelic visitation, her question to Gabriel was How will this be (Luke 1:34)? It was a mystery to her.

Every time we, in our limited understanding of anything spiritual try to make the things of God logical, we will have problems. To Mary’s great credit, she believed the angel and accepted her lot knowing that she would be misunderstood and criticised or worse, by the neighbours and other people in Nazareth at the time.

Paul was constantly trying to make his readers and listeners understand all that Mary had understood, that Jesus was no ordinary child.

Action

Think again today about the mystery of Christ. Jesus had a destiny even before the world as we know it began!

Read Proverbs 8 which is a personification of Wisdom, and as you read it, imagine Jesus talking about life with His Father long before the world began and before it developed into what we experience today.
