Mysteries and Secrets – Day 1

Job 11:7

Can you fathom the mysteries of God? Can you probe the limits of the Almighty?

The Thought

If someone asked you this question today could you answer it? Job’s friends who had come to comfort him in his sufferings were not very helpful, telling Job that he had completely misunderstood the God he thought he knew. In chapter 11, one of Job’s comforters began to speak, being very frustrated with Job’s self defence. It is this “comforter” that gave us today’s verse. But the question in today’s verse is a good one for us all to contemplate from time to time. None of us can fathom the mysteries of Heaven, and certainly none of us can probe the limits of the Almighty! At the end of 37 long chapters of going backwards and forward with this sort of argument God spoke (Job 38:1-41:34).

Because our everlasting, eternal God has no limits, none at all! Man was made in His image, so maybe the early created man had no limits either. I believe he didn’t until after the fall. It was then that God banished Adam and Eve from the garden, so that they would not take from the tree of life, and live forever (Genesis 3:22).

The mysteries of God have been hidden since Adam and Eve were banished from the garden, but that has not stopped many people from thinking they know Him and how He thinks. Many scientists, historians and theologians have spent many hours trying to understand the mysteries in God’s universe.

Action

Think today about how well you understand some of the unanswerable questions; the mysteries of God. Do you have set answers ready for those who challenge you about faith?

Read some or all of God’s answers over 4 chapters (Job 38-42), and imagine all the images God creates as He speaks about the mysteries He has created.
