Haggai – Day 3

Haggai 1:3-4

Then the word of The Lord came through the prophet Haggai: “Is it a time for you yourselves to be living in your panelled houses, while this house remains a ruin?”

The Thought

These verses remind us that God not only hears our conversations, but sees everything going on in the earth. He misses nothing! Two verses come to mind as I think about that.

For the eyes of the Lord range throughout the earth to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to Him. – 2 Chronicles 16:9

The eyes of The Lord are everywhere, keeping watch on the wicked and the good. – Proverbs 15:3

Why would God be watching the wicked and doing nothing to stop them? That’s a question for another day!

Today many are thinking that we should not be building huge churches, but having much smaller ones in homes. Or using other buildings such as schools or community rooms. In many parts of the world, church is an open air event in a clearing in the forest, or in a park.

There are good arguments for not spending a lot on church buildings, but there are also arguments on the other side! A place totally dedicated to only Christian activities will quickly become the habitat of Holy Spirit.

Action

As you go through your day today think about the places you meet with Jesus, at home, at church, out walking? Where do you hear from Him the most?

Remind yourself that the eyes of the Lord are aware of everything. He is watching, not to criticise, but to help where necessary, (2 Chronicles 16:9) and to protect where necessary (Proverbs 15:3).

Today read 1 Chronicles 17:1-15 where David was suddenly feeling guilty about having a beautiful home when God’s “home”, the ark of the covenant, had no home. Note God’s response. He already had it all planned out! Be encouraged.
