Habakkuk – Day 27
God was fighting for His people. He still does. Maybe not in such a dramatic way as he did for Joshua. But maybe there are places where He is doing those things and we just do not hear about them. News media prefer telling of the tragedies and the disasters.
Habakkuk 3:11-12
Sun and moon stood still in the heavens at the glint of Your flying arrows, at the lightning of your flashing spear. In wrath You strode through the earth and in anger You threshed the nations.
The Thought
Habakkuk continues his walk down memory lane, praising God for victories He has wrought for His people. You will remember that Moses was God’s chosen instrument to bring the people of God out of Egypt, and Joshua had been Moses’s assistant from a young age (Numbers 11:28).
When Joshua was young, Moses had taken him with him when he went to talk to the Lord in the tent of meeting. As Moses returned to the camp to the waiting people, Joshua stayed in the tent (Exodus 33:11).
The verses today are a reference to when God lengthened a day so that His people would win the battle (Joshua 10:12-14). Verse 14 is worth repeating here. There has never been a day like it, before or since, a day when the Lord listened to a human being. Surely the Lord was fighting for Israel.
What more was there to say about that miracle. God was definitely fighting for His people. He still does. Maybe not in such a dramatic way as he did for Joshua. But maybe there are places where He is doing those things and we just don’t hear about them. News media is not so enthusiastic about telling the good, they seem to prefer to tell of the tragedies and the disasters.
Action
Read Joshua 10 and be amazed at what God can do when His people pray inspired prayers.
Praise God for the good things He is doing all over the world today, pray that they can be made more publicly known.
Pray for the media to be more balanced in what it reports to the public.
Make the choice to watch or listen to a Christian news programme.
