Doors & Gates – Day 5

Genesis 7:16

The animals going in were male and female of every living thing as God had commanded Noah. Then the Lord shut him in.

The Thought

The short sentence at the end of this verse is very dramatic and reminds me of the verse we read on day 2 from Revelation 3:7. These are the words of Him who is faithful and true, who holds the key of David. What He opens no-one can shut, and what He shuts no-one can open.

God is the same all the way through the Bible. He was closing doors in Noah’s time and He will still be opening and closing doors at the end of time.

How final it must have felt for Noah and his family. They always knew they were going to be living on this huge boat they had worked for years to build, furnish and equip. But it must have been a very scary final moment when God closed the door!

They had a week’s warning (Genesis 7:4) that the Lord would shut the door between them and the rest of the world, but it must still have been a shock.

Those who mocked Noah thought it was a ridiculous thing to be building such a huge craft. They didn’t believe that the God they refused to believe in would or could destroy their world.

Life is sadly much the same in our time. Many believers are mocked for their faith. And too many people refuse to believe in Jesus who is coming back to save those of us who are still alive taking us/them straight to Heaven with Him.

Action

Pray today for those you know who do not recognise Jesus as the Saviour of the world.

Read the story of Noah in Genesis chapters 6-8 and be thankful for Noah’s obedience in all he did.
