Doors & Gates – Day 31

Psalms 78:23

He gave a command to the skies above and opened the doors of the heavens.

The Thought

The psalmist is praising God for all He has done in the past. Many of the psalms were written with that intention. Reading them or singing them today blesses us and encourages us that what He has done in the past He can certainly do again.

There is certainly more than one occasion when God opened the doors of the heavens. But here in context we are reading about when He “rained down manna” after the Israelites were hungry in the desert (Exodus 16).

That was one of those miracles that we might need to remember in days ahead. Things could get more difficult for believers, when we cannot buy or sell without the mark of the beast (Revelation 13:17)! A scary thought but God can be trusted to provide for our every need, whatever our circumstances.

God “opened the doors of heaven” early on in the history of mankind. He sent the flood to destroy all who would not listen to Noah’s plea to change their behaviour and save themselves from destruction (Genesis 6 & 7).

We must remember these events in these strange times. It really does look as though the enemy is ruling the earth. But God is still in control and He still laughs at the wicked because He knows their day is coming (Psalm 37:13).

Action

Praise God that He never changes (Hebrews 1:10-12).

As you go through your day today think of the times when God provided miraculously for His people. Remember and be blessed.

As you hear of disturbing things going on in the world of confusion that we live in, be at peace and encouraged that God is still in control.
