Doors & Gates – Day 23

Personally, I like the image of the road (representing our life choices), leading to a gate or a door. Remember that Jesus said He was the way, (meaning the road)! I am the way, the truth and the life. No-one comes to The Father except through Me (John 14:6).

Luke 13:24

Make every effort to enter through the narrow door, because many, I tell you, will try to enter and will not be able to.

The Thought

This is one of Jesus’ more famous sayings about doors, and He gives it in answer to a question from an un-named follower Lord are only a few people going to be saved? How many people, educated and less educated have worried about that subject?

As is often the case, Jesus doesn’t answer the question directly, but follows it with a picture. The picture seems to tell us that many who expect to get into Heaven won’t succeed! How sad!

Matthew’s version of this teaching helps to make it a bit clearer, at least for me. Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it (Matthew 7:13-14).

That helps to make things clearer for me. Sadly there are many who consider themselves good people, who give God a friendly nod by going to a church service from time to time, or praying in times of stress. They need our prayers for their eyes to be open to the truth.

Action

Pray today for those you know who have not yet found the road to eternal life, and don’t understand the blessings of that personal relationship with Jesus.
