Creation – Day 22

Throughout the Bible God brings His people back to the fact that He started the whole earth, and is in fact still in charge! This chapter begins with a prophecy that must have shocked the Israelites. God was going to bring a pagan king to lead His people.

Isaiah 45:12

It is I who made the earth and created mankind on it. My own hands stretched out the heavens; I marshalled their starry hosts.

The Thought

Throughout the Bible God brings His people back to the fact that He started the whole earth, and is in fact still in charge!

This chapter begins with a prophecy that must have shocked the Israelites that heard it. God was going to bring a pagan king to lead His people. We read at the end of the previous chapter that God refers to Cyrus as His shepherd. A previously un-imagined possibility.

Think about the situation as Isaiah gave this prophecy and the leaders of the synagogue responding “that isn’t possible! You must be wrong! God would never choose a non-Israelite to be king over us!”

But God defends His decision by assuring them that He can do ANYTHING! He continues with the promise that Cyrus will begin the task of rebuilding the temple. Something very dear to the heart of God’s people.

The defence of God’s decision continues all through chapter 45 where in verse 5 He promises to Cyrus, “I will strengthen you, though you have not acknowledged Me”.

The Sovereign Lord then continues, reminding the listeners that He is the creator of all.

Then in verse 9 we have the warning “Woe to those who quarrel with their Maker…”.

A warning to all who disagree with Him!

Action

Read Chapter 44 and 45 of Isaiah’s prophecy and feel the anger as God defends Himself and His decisions.

Ask yourself if you truly believe what He says about you, and all He can do and wants to do for you.

Are you totally convinced that the creation story is NOT just a story, but an account of the truth?

Ask Jesus to help you understand and trust in any Bible verses you are not so sure about.
