Creation – Day 19

Ecclesiastes 7:29

This only have I found: God created mankind upright, but they have gone in search of many schemes.

The Thought

The writer of the poetic book of Ecclesiastes is generally believed to be David’s successor, his son, King Solomon who was known for his wisdom. Some of the verses expound great wisdom, but many suggest that he may have been having a bad day when he wrote them.

This verse is one of his better day verses!

I chose it because it it is true! God did definitely create mankind upright. You can’t get more upright than “the image of God”, that was the design plan!

And yes, man has gone after many schemes, some good, some bad, and some just a waste of time and energy!

The good schemes originate with God, and the bad ones come from the devil who Jesus describes as “a murderer from the beginning, a liar and the father of lies!” (John 8:44-45).

The verse today is the last in the chapter, but the next chapter opens with the question “Who is like the wise? Who knows the explanation of things?”

The answer to that question is “God”! He is the only one who can explain things to us. Many of us do things and we aren’t sure why, but spending time with Jesus will help us to know the good reasons and the bad reasons for what we do and the way we do them.

Action

Spend some time today asking Jesus if you are going after schemes that are not in His plan for you. Ask Him to put you back on the right path, the narrow path which leads to life. (Matthew 7:13-14)

Thank God today for those who have helped you on the path to Real Life, those who are helping you fulfill the tasks God planned for you before the beginning of the world.
