Creation – Day 10
There has been light and dark since the very first day. Any thought that all the light on earth comes from the sun has to be false! The sun and moon were created to govern the light. A deeper search tells us that it means to keep within the limits.
Genesis 1:14-16
And God said let there be lights in the expanse of the sky to separate the the day from the night, and let them serve as signs to mark seasons days and years. And let them be lights in the sky to give light on the earth. And it was so. God made two great lights, the greater light to govern the day and the lesser light to govern the night.
The Thought
Here we are on the fourth day of creation. There has been light and dark since the very first day. So any thought that all the light on earth comes from the sun has to be false!
The sun and moon were created to “govern” the light. Other translations of the Hebrew for “govern” are “dominate” or “rule”. But a deeper search tells us that it means “to keep within the limits”.
I guess that’s what all governments try to do, as well as teachers in schools, parents in homes. All these people set the limits according to their own ideas. So God put limits on the earth defining day and night according to His priorities.
Can you imagine the mind of God inventing the sun and moon, then deciding on the seasons and ordering the sun and moon to move in certain directions at certain times to make the earth productive?
What an amazing plan! We on earth are so used to the seasons and times of the year that most of us don’t give them a thought, except to complain that it’s too cold or too hot or spring is late, winter is too long. It depends how we like to spend out time.
Action
Praise God today for the seasons in the place where you live.
Tell Him what you like and what you don’t like. He won’t be offended, He just enjoys hearing you talk to Him.
Think about the fact that most plants need sunlight to help them grow, and rejoice that the day FOLLOWING plant creation, God made the sun!
