Christmas – Day 30

Luke 2:49

Didn’t you know I had to be about My Father’s business?

The Thought

This second chapter of the gospel of Luke covers about 13 years.

After the details of the angelic visitations, the birth of Jesus, and His presentation at the temple, the story jumps on to where He is making His own decisions.

When Mary and Joseph find their lost son, He is questioning the elders in the temple. Something He would do quite a lot of later in his life.

What really challenged me in this verse is His response to His distraught parents.

“Why were you searching for me? Didn’t you know I had to be about my Father’s business?” Some versions translate this last phrase as “in My Father’s house”, but I was challenged by the former translation.

I ask myself if I am “about my Father’s business” doing what He calls me to be doing, saying what He calls me to say. Praying? Studying His word? Spreading the good news of Jesus? Praising?

Action

Ask yourself today as we finish this study with that challenge, how much of your time is spent doing what He asks you to do. Pray for The Lord’s help in doing more of “His business”.

As we move into 2021 can you resolve to make a greater effort to be doing more of what He might be calling you to do?

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year to all. May this coming year be happier, healthier and less stressful than 2020 has been for many.

In the words of The Blessing song that has “gone viral” this year my prayer for all of us comes from Numbers 6:24-26.

May the Lord bless you and watch over you.
May the Lord smile on you and be kind to you.
May the Lord look on you with favour and give you peace.

    1. Happy New Year to you too Andrea, thank you for your encouragement and support. May next year be a blessing for us all, and find us doing what Jesus calls us to be doing, where He calls us to be doing it.
Tomorrow we begin a 30 day series on The 7 seals of Revelation!!
      Blessings
