Christmas is a time to reflect on the birth of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.
Although the story is familiar to a lot of us, it is good to look at it anew. As we do, let’s think about what really happened all those years ago and how it affects our lives today. I pray as you read these studies that you will fall in love afresh with Jesus and His (and our) Father in Heaven.

Proverbs 8:27-30

I (wisdom) was there when He set the heavens in place, when He marked out the horizon on the face of the deep, when He established the clouds above and fixed securely the fountains of the deep, when He gave the sea its boundary so the waters would not overstep his command, and when He marked out the foundations of the earth.

The Thought

Proverbs 8:27-30 I was there when He set the heavens in place. Continuing from yesterday’s study about Jesus being alive from the beginning of time, we read just a few verses from Proverbs chapter 8. I think it is one of the happiest chapters in the entire Bible.

Continuing from yesterday’s study about Jesus being alive from the beginning of time, we read just a few verses from the Old Testament book of Proverbs, chapter 8. This chapter is a personification of Wisdom, and a fun passage of scripture to read. It paints a glorious image of Father, Son and Holy Spirit working together to create our world.
Personally I have felt for many years that this chapter is Jesus speaking. I imagine Jesus and His Father having fun together, creating so many different species of animals, plants and eventually deciding on the crowning glory of creation. Mankind!
I think it is one of the happiest chapters in the entire Bible.
If you are one who has never been convicted about a created earth, and prefer the evolution idea, you might like to follow this chapter in Proverbs by reading also at the end of the book of Job where God reprimands Job for his ignorance. In chapters 40 and 41 God speaks and describes the intricate parts of 2 animals thought to be the hippopotamus and the crocodile. The then humbled Job declares, as many of us can today, “Surely I spoke of things I did not understand…” (Job 42:3)

Action

Take some time today to reflect on whether you have “spoken out” about things you didn’t really understand! We are all guilty of that. Then read the whole chapter of Proverbs 8 and imagine Jesus telling the story of the beginning of time. Feel His joy and excitement.
Be assured that Christmas was not the beginning of Jesus, but just the start of His earthly life. Thank God for the miracle of that.
