Children of God – Day 28

1 John 3:1-2

See what great love The Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God. And that is what we are!
Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when He appears, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is.

The Thought

John’s three letters talk a lot about being children of God. He often addresses his readers as his own children. John also talks more of the love of Father God than most other writers. He seems to have a better understanding than the other disciples, of what being loved really means.

John makes many things very clear and understandable. But still he knows there is a mystery which the Lord is keeping hidden until the last days.

While we are waiting for more revelation from Heaven, we are called to be like Jesus in our every day lives. Unfortunately, no matter how much effort we put into that challenge, we cannot be like Him who was at the same time fully human and fully divine. But one day …!

Near the end of the previous chapter John addresses us with these words. And now, dear children, continue in Him, so that when He appears, we may be confident and unashamed before Him at His coming (1 John 2:28).

Action

Rejoice today that you are a child of God. Even though you do not yet have a full understanding of what that means. Praise God for His wonderful promises in this life as well as in the next.

Pray for the members of your church to live as children of God, saved by grace and with the Kingdom of Heaven at their finger tips.

Read more of John’s letters today. There are 3 of them very near the end of your Bible.
