Children of God – Day 23

Luke 15:22-23

But the father said to his servants, “Quick! Bring the best robe and put it on him. Put a ring on his finger and sandals on his feet. Bring the fattened calf and kill it. Let’s have a feast and celebrate.”

The Thought

The continuation of yesterday’s story of the prodigal son continues with the father exceeding all hopes and expectations of his younger son. He had been to the bottom of the pit and returned full of shame and sorrow. The father was excited to be able to celebrate because the lost son had returned to the family fold.

When we have been far from where we should be as believers, we often go to Father God and say “I’m sorry, let me serve You”. He says “Later! First let’s celebrate your return to the family”!

The Father in this story told by Jesus was in fact explaining to the son who he really was. His response was to show this son just how much he was valued. First the wayward one was to take up his rights as that child. Father said to him Put on the robe of righteousness (Isaiah 61:10). (Everything is forgiven)!

Take the ring of authority, showing that you have a real position (Genesis 41:42). And wear the sandals that show that you own the land (Ruth 4:7). Later we’ll talk about work. But first, let’s celebrate!

Action

Read the different verses mentioned above and ask yourself if you understand what it means to be an inheritor of all that God has for you. Pray for further revelation.

Praise God that He is not in a hurry to have us serve Him, but he is in a hurry to see more children return to “the family fold”!

He is a God who loves to celebrate, praise Him for that. Praise Him for the authority He allows us to have.
