Children of God – Day 12

Ephesians 5:8

For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light.

The Thought

Jesus told his disciples that they were the light of the world (Matthew 5:14), as well as saying that He is the light of the world (John 8:12). He knew that His earthly family would eventually reflect His glory and live like His children.

Several years after Jesus walked the earth, Paul wrote the verse above encouraging each of us to live in the light of all we receive from our Heavenly Father.

Peter encourages us along the same lines in the verses giving us a new identity as God’s children: But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His wonderful light (1 Peter 2:9).

Each of us is chosen by God to carry His light into the dark places of the world. Those places can be the house next door, your office, your supermarket, your church, or the homes of other family members or friends. They can be a dark alley or a bridge where the homeless sleep.

If we live as children of light, we will radiate the light and love of the Lord wherever we go.

Action

Ask yourself today if you are growing as a child of God. Do others notice the changes in you as you grow more like Jesus?

Pray for the light of God’s Spirit to shine through you everywhere you go today.

Praise Him that He has chosen you to be His light to the world. Praise Him that all you have to do is let His Spirit live through you.

Dare to go to some of the darker places in your city, but be as wise as serpents (Matthew 10:16), and don’t go alone.
