These 6 verses from Psalm 148 give us a list of created things, confirming that God created them. This whole psalm (148) is a song of praise for creation, beginning with an encouragement for the heavenly bodies and residents to continue their praise, then moving on to the earthly creation.
According to this verse, the celestial bodies are eternal. God established them that way. There is one other thing in our Bibles which is spoken about as eternal and 3 of the gospels record it for us. Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will never pass away.
What would prompt a song writer thousands of years ago to even imagine that the planets could make music? My guess is it was his relationship with God! A quick internet search allows us to hear those sounds from the stars recorded by scientists working to discover more about space.
There are times when praising the Lord, whether in songs or prayers, can be a response from our heads, and not our hearts. That is OK! Praise is always good, and singing praises can change our emotions from sad to happy, it can help us focus on what really matters.
Jacob and Israel in the first of these verses are the same people. Jacob was the twin brother of Esau, sons of Isaac and Rebecca. Much later in his life, as he was preparing to meet his brother Esau after many years of separation, God changed his name to Israel.
The verses today explain that The Lord is often (maybe always), responsible for changing weather patterns, and is definitely not surprised by unexpected or out of season weather! He changes things by His word! He speaks and things change! Notice the weather patterns throughout your day today and be thankful.
The Lord hears and answers not always as quickly as we would like. But He has often prepared His answers before we even knew there was a problem, because He is The God who sees. That was the name of The Lord, first mentioned by Hagar, the servant of Sarah.
These verses speak of protection and peace for a city, and even for individual homes. Knowing we are well protected allows us to be at peace. Knowing we have a securely locked door means we sleep well at night. Knowing we have angels of protection means we sleep well too.
Sadly, there are many who know that their way of life is not pleasing to Him and live afraid that there might be a God who sees everything! They live hoping and believing they will change before they die! Remember that we do not know the day or the hour.
I do not suppose many of us reading this can identify with this verse! The majority of people no longer rely on horses to lead us into battle! We travel in vehicles, and give it very little thought until there is a strike or a breakdown. Then we get frustrated!
