Babies and Children – Day 2

Genesis 4:1

Adam made love to his wife Eve, and she became pregnant and gave birth to Cain. She said, “With the help of the Lord I have brought forth a man.”

The Thought

Adam and Eve had been banished from the Garden of Eden, but were still in very close communication with the Lord. I often wonder if God explained to Eve what was happening in her body once she was pregnant. In our modern day thinking, it is hard to imagine all that happens from conception to childbirth being an unknown! Today’s verse tells us that Eve gave credit to God for what had happened.

We know very little about this first family on earth, except that the first two brothers did not get on well, and one killed the other! The devil had not given up on being a bad influence of mankind! He still hasn’t! Brothers are still killing brothers in many parts of the world.

A third son was born to Eve, and Adam named him Seth (Genesis 5:3). The next verse tells us that Seth was followed by other brothers and sisters (Genesis 5:4). These verses also tell us that people lived a very long time in those days.

Action

Read Genesis 5 today and think about the qualifications given to some of those mentioned. One day in Heaven we will meet some of those people, who would you most like to get to know? What would you ask them?

Thank God for His plan from the beginning of time to fill the earth and subdue it (Genesis 1:28).

Pray today for anyone you know who is expecting a baby. As you go through your day keep a look out for anyone who is pregnant and pray for that mother and the baby, that they will get to know Jesus, and the child will be blessed and protected.
