Babies and Children – Day 1

Isaiah 7:13-14

Then Isaiah said, “Hear now, you house of David! Is it not enough to try the patience of humans? Will you try the patience of my God also? Therefore The Lord Himself will give you a sign: The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and will call Him Immanuel.”

The Thought

We start this new month with the words of the prophet about the most famous baby ever born. Even people who don’t follow Jesus will be celebrating His birth this month. Often in unbiblical ways. And it is sad that in most of the western world, this month has become one when Santa is celebrated more than Jesus!

Things were bad in Isaiah’s day too! There was much to concern people. Reading from verse 1 of this chapter, we get the feelings of fear and conflict everywhere. Ahaz was king of Israel at that time, and it was to him that Isaiah the prophet was speaking.

What I find difficult to understand in this situation is why the birth of Jesus should be prophesied, 600 years before the event, as an encouragement to Israel! Were the people from then on keeping an eye on all the virgins they knew to look for this miracle baby?

Action

Read Isaiah 7 today, and pray for understanding of the situation.

Praise Father God that He had a plan from the beginning of time to save the world. The first prophecy of evil being overcome by Jesus is in the first book of the Bible. God spoke to the serpent who had tempted and persuaded Eve into eating the forbidden fruit. I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; He will crush your head, and you will strike His heel (Genesis 3:15).

Pray today that this month you will follow God’s plan for you. Remember whose birthday we celebrate.

Pray for protection against demonic temptations for yourself and those you care for.
