While watching the sheep in the fields David had plenty of time to meditate on the messages he had heard at the synagogue. Did he actually accompany his family to the temple on the sabbath? Were the sheep taken into the barn for holy days, or just left to themselves?
There had been much shame in his family line when his maternal grandmother returned to Bethlehem having lost her husband and both her sons. The sons had broken Jewish tradition by taking Moabite wives, so as a foreigner, Ruth could have faced a lot of ridicule and rejection.
These first verses at the beginning of our study give us the feeling that David was watching other believers, and how they lived their lives. He came to the conclusion that those who follow the laws of God are blessed, and those who do not are not!
Sadly many of those who did not have a good relationship with their earthly fathers may find it difficult to be so familiar with Father God. Many need to receive healing prayer in order to break those blockages. If that is you, then seek someone today who can help you.
Once we understand that each one of us who believe in Jesus is a son of God, then there is no room for fear of anything. A child who lives in a secure healthy family worries about nothing, because daddy is always there to fix things.
The way to learn is always to follow an expert! As children of God we should be living as Jesus did. Of course that does not mean wearing sandals and a long robe, but showing the world our inheritance through the way we think and the decisions we make.
It is so sad that so many people in the world around us have no idea that they are spiritually dead. Many people think that there is no spiritual world at all, they believe the world is what we see, and nothing else. How sad that is!
Please note that nowhere in this chapter of Romans does it say, if you attend church regularly or if you read your Bible and pray every day. These things can be religious activities which make our soul feel good, but do nothing for our spiritual life.
At the meeting with her cousin the two women both had spiritual reactions. Elizabeth immediately knew in her spirit that Mary was carrying the long awaited Messiah, and Mary burst into song! What an amazing moment that must have been! We can imagine these cousins both laughing and crying together!
At the moment of the death of Jesus, His body carried the punishment for our sins and both His soul and His spirit, as well as His body, were in agony because of the separation from the loving Father, with whom He had been in total communion until this point.
