Psalm 119 – Day 4

Psalm 119:12-16

Praise be to you, Lord; teach me your decrees. With my lips I recount all the laws that come from your mouth. I rejoice in following your statutes as one rejoices in great riches. I meditate on your precepts and consider your ways. I delight in your decrees; I will not neglect your word.

The Thought

As we read these verses slowly we get the impression that David really did get excited about the scriptures. He was enthusiastic about what The Lord said about everything. His Bible was probably only the first 5 books of the Bible; The Pentateuch (Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy).

Very early in the Bible, we read one of the saddest verses, certainly in the Old Testament:- The Lord regretted that He had made human beings on the earth, and His heart was deeply troubled (Genesis 6:6).

Thankfully, a couple of verses later God decided not to eliminate all mankind, but to save Noah and his family. It seems that Noah was the only righteous person, and his family were saved because of him! Unfortunately, things went wrong quite soon after the flood subsided. Noah drank too much of his homemade wine, and one of his sons, Ham, made fun of him. Sadly the result of that was that one of his grandsons was cursed (Genesis 9:20-27)!

It is interesting that the guilty one of Noah’s sons was not cursed, but his son, Canaan, took the result of his father’s wrongdoing!

Action

Today read Genesis 9 for the part of Noah’s story that is not so often preached about!

Think about those you love, and pray for them whether they are believers or not.

Pray for yourself as David did in today’s verse, Praise be to you, Lord; teach me your decrees.
