Angels – Day 9

Matthew 1:20

But after he had considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, “Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit.”

The Thought

There are several stories of angelic activity in the nativity story. One told Mary she was going to carry the Christ child, several appeared to the shepherds, and the three wise men all had the same angelic dream about not returning home via Herod’s palace (Matthew 2:12)! I have chosen this verse speaking of Joseph’s first experience with an angel because of the translation, “an angel of the Lord”.

This verse suggests that there are angels from another source! Angels of satan! These are the evil spirits that we read much about during Jesus’ ministry on earth. He often blamed demonic activity for sickness or infirmity and had no hesitation in casting out those demons. Sometimes with dramatic effect.

Luke recounts the deliverance of the “demon possessed man” who lived in the tombs (Luke 8:26-38). The evil spirits that had tormented the man left him and destroyed a whole herd of pigs!

These events are real and are still happening today. We must not be afraid of the spirit world, but pray for Holy Spirit to guide us every step of the way.

Jesus gave His followers (you and me) authority to cast out demons (Mark 3:15 & 16:17).

Action

Pray for open spiritual eyes to recognise the spiritual activity around you.

The next time you pray for healing for someone ask The Lord if there is demonic activity that is the cause of the sickness. Be bold to take authority over that in the name of Jesus.

Praise God for that Name above all names which makes demons tremble and really is higher than any other name.
