Angels – Day 11
Imagine for a moment the delegation from Moab who had gone to fetch Balaam. They watched the donkey do strange things, then they listened to a conversation between the prophet and the donkey, and finally they saw Balaam fall face down in front of a being they could not see.
Numbers 22:24-25
Then the angel of The Lord stood in a narrow path through the vineyards, with walls on both sides. When the donkey saw the angel of The Lord, it pressed close to the wall, crushing Balaam’s foot against it, so he beat the donkey again.
The Thought
Balaam, who couldn’t see the angel, was angry when the donkey went off the road, (see yesterday’s message). He became even more angry when the donkey moved so close to a wall that Balaam’s foot got trapped.
The seer (who couldn’t see) was even more angry when the donkey lay down in the road refusing to go forward because the angel was in front of him once more.
It was only after the donkey himself had a conversation with Balaam that his eyes were opened. He could finally see “The angel of The Lord” who had blocked the way 3 times.
Imagine for a moment the delegation who had gone to fetch Balaam. They watched the donkey do strange things, then they listened to a conversation between the prophet and the donkey, and finally they saw Balaam fall face down in front of a being they couldn’t see!! He then went on to have a conversation with this “being”.
The angel repeated what God had already said, that Balaam must only say what God gave him to say.
Balaam never did curse Israel because, of course, they were God’s chosen people.
Action
Read on in this story to see what happened next. In its entirety, it covers 2 more chapters.
Praise God for the prophets of today who say ONLY what they hear the Lord saying.
Can you think of a time in your life when you have wanted to go somewhere but the way was blocked? Maybe not literally, but some time when things didn’t turn out as you had planned? Do you think there was angelic activity there?
