Idols – Day 26

Exodus 34:17

Do not make any idols.

The Thought

A short, simple and clear message to the Israelites before they settled in their promised land! It was a message often stressed and repeated. We have looked at many different verses so far, and most of them qualify this simple verse, usually repeating the same message.

Evidently God wants us to understand that idolatry is not appreciated by Him and is certainly not good for us in any form!

In the Bible version that I read, idols are mentioned 192 times in the Old Testament, and 31 in the New Testament. It is obvious that God had a lot to say about them. He still does! The Lord knew in advance that people having “images” would be easily distracted by demonic involvement and could get entrapped by them.

Satan never plays fair and he will use anything and everything he can to distract us from sincerely worshipping Jesus and understanding the truth of God’s message to the world.

In 1 Chronicles 29 we read of David’s plans to build the temple for The Lord and in verse 18 he prays that God will keep the hearts of the people loyal to Him.

Action

Ask Jesus to show you today if you have fallen into idolatry, and where. Have you made an idol of yourself, your partner your children, or maybe your ancestors, your job, house or car.

If you know others who are falling into the sin of idolatry, in any form, pray for them today to be set free and follow only Jesus.

Praise Him that He is a forgiving God who loves us in spite of our failures, and is always quick to bring us back on track as long as that is the desire of our heart.

Read Psalm 37 today and note verse 4: Take delight in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart.
