The Life of Joseph – Day 24

Genesis 44:12-13

Then the steward began to search, beginning with the eldest, and ending with the youngest. And the cup was found in Benjamin’s sack.

The Thought

This must have been a tense time for all the brothers. Each of them claimed that they were innocent of any theft, but they must have remembered their previous visit, when they had all received back the silver they had taken to pay the Egyptians for the grain!

What strange happenings they were experiencing. And why?

And Benjamin! How did he feel? He knew it was not him that had taken this piece of silver! Who could have planted it in his sack?

Verse 14 tells us that Joseph was waiting for their return, still not letting them know his true identity, but with a plan to keep Benjamin with him in Egypt. At least that is what it seemed. Judah then took his position as eldest brother very seriously and recounted in great detail the whole situation of their ageing father and the brother who had disappeared, repeating to Joseph every word of their conversations before leaving for Egypt, and pleading for Joseph’s understanding.

There are many stories of personal sacrifice in our Bible. The best and most important one is that of Jesus!

Action

Read this chapter to the end today and try to see it in the context of our modern world. Would you be ready to become a slave in order to save a sibling and the health of a parent? There are many people across the world who have given organs of their body to save a family member!

Thank Jesus again for His sacrifice on the cross, but also for His coming to earth. The real sacrifice was made when He first agreed with Father God to become a man and live as one of us!
